Wrestling news: AEW Revolution set for unpredictable main event between MJF and Hangman Page

On February 19, AEW world champion MJF and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page came face-to-face on AEW Dynamite to confirm their world title match at Revolution.

However, the caveat is that if Page loses, he will never challenge for the world championship ever again, adding unpredictability to the main event as MJF is only 55 days into his second championship run.

Here, Sports News Blitz writer Mosaddek Abu takes a look at both competitors and explains who should walk out of Revolution as world champion.

Third World Championship reign beckons

Hangman lost the world championship back in October and has been chasing to recapture it ever since.

He missed out on it at Worlds End in December after he was low-blowed by MJF in the fatal four-way, with ‘The salt of the Earth’ stealing the win and becoming AEW world champ for the second time.

Page recently knocked off Andrade at Grand Slam and has earned the right to be the number-one contender.

He then engaged in an intense promo with the champion on Dynamite and vowed that if he lost, he would never compete for the world championship ever again.

The last person to put a stipulation like that on the line in a world title match was Cody Rhodes, who subsequently lost.

Throughout his entire AEW run, he never competed for the title again, leaving him stuck in the same position and sparking fan unrest, ultimately leading to his exit from the company.

They may not want to run the same risk with Hangman, whom the fans love and have always rooted for thanks to his passionate promos and great in-ring performances.

Plus, if he were to win it for a third time, there are some matches and stories they could revisit.

One of them could be Swerve Strickland, who defeated Kenny Omega and inflicted a beating on him post-match.

Could there be a one-on-one match between these two, but this time with a title on the line?

How about another match with Omega, or whenever Wil Ospreay returns from injury, perhaps these two would like to run it back, quite possibly in front of a large crowd at All In London.

Those options are still open for Hangman, so his regaining of the title so soon can’t be ruled out, especially if there is genuine potential in any of the matches listed above.

MJF to deny fairytale ending

The current world champion has yet to beat Adam Page in a one-on-one match.

The two met twice in 2025, with their first match just so happening to be at Revolution and the other at Forbidden Door, both of which saw Page come out the winner.

Now, ‘The Salt of the Earth’ has held the title for just 55 days, and if he were to lose in Los Angeles on March 15, it would feel too soon.

This second run with the belt was to give him another chance and make up for the disappointing few months he had during his first reign, with a lacklustre devil-mask storyline ruining the goodwill it had built up.

It’s the first major feud of his title run so far, and it feels like there is more to come from MJF and his current reign as a champion.

Plus, with the work he’s doing outside of AEW, defending the title for promotions on the indy scene, he’s getting the AEW brand out there and at the same time giving value to those promotions he goes and does work for.

Not to mention, it’s difficult to see him losing a third singles match to Page, because then the path forward isn’t clear.

Who should leave as champion?

Sometimes the hero doesn’t get the fairytale ending, with the villain raining on their parade.

In this case, MJF needs to retain.

He has only held the title for 55 days, and to mark his stamp on this second run, he needs to defeat the person he hasn’t yet beaten in singles competition.

In addition, the heel heat he’d get would fit right into his character and the outside impact he has.

He is the company’s most recognisable star, and his defending the championship at other small promotions in the US will do good for AEW and attract interest from new fans.

You also have to think about the story options compared to Hangman.

With Double or Nothing in May at the Louis Armstrong Stadium, AEW would likely want a huge main event for that PPV’s first stadium show, which could be MJF vs Omega.

So, MJF should walk out of the Crypto.com Arena as the AEW world champion, purely for the bigger picture and the more compelling storylines that await him as 2026 goes on.

But this is the beauty and art of professional wrestling – it’s totally unpredictable, making it hard to see what the outcome is going to be.

The main event of AEW Revolution will certainly be a must-watch.
