Soccer opinion: Is it time for a new Big Six? Who replaces Tottenham Hotspur?

This season’s relegation battle has captured the attention of fans across the league, with tension building as the fight for survival intensifies.

Clubs such as West Ham United and Nottingham Forest are firmly in the mix, and the possibility of a high-profile side dropping out of the Premier League is becoming increasingly real.

However, the most shocking outcome of all would be if Tottenham Hotspur were to go down, who only sit one point above relegation, a scenario few would have predicted at the start of the campaign.

Here, Sports News Blitz’s Tyler Cooke takes a closer look at whether Tottenham could be relegated and explores if it’s time for a new ‘Big Six’

Tottenham’s recent form

Tottenham’s recent Premier League form has been deeply concerning, with the North London side slipping into a prolonged winless run that has pulled them uncomfortably close to the relegation conversation.

A succession of defeats, coupled with only a few hard-fought draws, has severely dented confidence around the club, and there are few signs of an immediate turnaround.

After lifting the Europa League trophy last season with victory over Manchester United, Spurs made the bold decision to replace Ange Postecoglou with Thomas Frank.

Many supporters viewed this as the beginning of a new era—one that could see the club consistently challenge for silverware and perhaps even mount a serious title push.

That optimism initially seemed justified.

Spurs won three of their opening four league matches, including an impressive victory over Manchester City, suggesting real progress under their new manager.

However, since that promising start, results have sharply declined, leaving the club searching for answers as the season threatens to unravel.

Due to their poor form, Spurs ultimately sacked Thomas Frank and brought in Igor Tudor, hoping he could save Tottenham's season, but he also failed, arguably leaving Spurs worse than before.

Who could replace Spurs in the Big Six?

Tottenham's place in the “Big Six” is under pressure, and if they were to be relegated, the debate over who could replace them is not easy.

With history, fanbase, and stature playing a huge part in deciding who should be in the big six.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa would be fans' favourites to replace Tottenham, with Newcastle's financial power and with Aston Villa recently pushing for the Champions League, you would have to say they would be front-runners to replace Spurs.

Everton and Leeds United could make a good argument as well, with good history and an incredible fanbase; they could be dragged into the arguments to be in the big six.
