Singapore GP: McLaren win 2025 Constructors’ Championship amid more intrateam drama

McLaren’s night in Singapore saw them secure their second straight Constructors’ Championship, marking their 10th Constructors’ title overall.

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri finished third and fourth, securing enough points to seal the title, marking the first time McLaren have clinched back-to-back Constructors' Championships since their winning streak between 1988 and 1991.

Team principal Andrea Stella spoke of the “incredible emotion” of the achievement, while CEO Zak Brown praised “all the men and women” at McLaren for their effort and teamwork.

Norris and Piastri make contact

The night wasn’t without drama. George Russell won the race ahead of Max Verstappen, but most of the attention was on McLaren’s drivers after a tense Lap 1 clash.

Norris tried to pass Piastri at Turn 3, tagging the back of Verstappen’s car before bumping into his team-mate and taking third place.

Piastri wasn’t happy. “Yeah, I mean that wasn’t very teamlike, but sure,” he said on the radio. “So, are we cool with Lando just barging me out of the way?”

Norris later defended the move, saying, “It’s racing. I put it on the inside, I had a small correction, but nothing more than that. It was good racing.”

After the race, Piastri kept his response calm: “Obviously there was contact, which is never ideal, but I’ll go and have a look at the replays.”

McLaren chose not to step in immediately, calling it a “racing incident” but confirming they’d review things later.

What comes next for McLaren?

With six races to go, McLaren’s biggest challenge may not be from Ferrari or Red Bull - but from within.

Both Norris and Piastri are still in the title fight, yet their rivalry could end up helping Verstappen close the gap.

Unless the team manages its drivers carefully, McLaren’s “Papaya rules” might come back to cost them a shot at the Drivers’ Championship.
