Rounders news: Horsforth Hawks Reds soar into top spot after hard-fought win

The Horsforth Hawks Reds rounders team soared into first place after securing a hard-fought victory over the Morley Maverick Pearls on Tuesday night.

The Hawks Reds are sponsored by Sports News Blitz, so we are following their season in a new division after they won promotion last season.

They have now played five games, winning four and losing one, so lead the way in the standings, with second-placed rivals Idle Red Kites having a game in hand.

🔥 MATCH REPORT 🔴🦅

Horsforth Hawks Reds beat Morley Maverick Pearls 16.5 – 12.5 in a nail-biting team effort 💪

The Hawks were sharp in the field - Sam pulled off two great catches effortlessly, while Rhiannon's throws from deep kept the pressure on throughout.

There was a moment of pure chaos when Han scored off a last-ball-no-ball situation that had everyone on their toes! 😅

With the bat, some lovely directional slogs down the hill from Sam, Beth S, Beth K, Rhiannon and Steph R kept the rounders ticking over, and there were brilliant milestones all round.

Wasan and Beth S both scored their first half rounder, while Sam notched up her first full rounder! 🌟 Liz top scored with 3.5, with Rhiannon close behind on 3.

The second innings got nervy fast when Morley took out three Hawks in a row on their first balls.

But Liv, Beth S and Liz dug in and chipped away at the halves over the last 10 balls to see it home.

Oh, and we had to wear stinky bibs 🤢

🏅 Umpire's POM - Liz, for her great bowling and top scoring on the day - her third POM of the season!

🏅 Players' POM - Sam, for her two great catches and brilliant batting.

A gritty, well-earned win ❤️🖤
