Rounders news: Horsforth Hawks Reds dig deep to win in grim conditions

Sports News Blitz sponsor the Horsforth Hawks Reds rounders team, who are flying high in first place in division four of the West Yorkshire league.

They have won five of their six games so far - but had to dig deep on Tuesday night, when they played in appalling conditions but managed to secure a hard-fought victory.

🔥 MATCH REPORT 🔴🦅

Horsforth Hawks Reds beat Halifax Bees 7.5 – 6.5 in truly grim conditions 🌧️

The Hawks showed real grit playing in torrential rain, dealing with a slippy ball and slippy grass throughout - and still coming out on top.

The fielding was the real story of the match, with some superb triangle work keeping the Bees' scoring well under control.

Liv's throws from backstop to Beth S on first base led to stumping after stumping, with Beth and Liz both showing lightning fast reactions to make the most of every chance.

Steph R grabbed two lovely catches out deep, and her throws in were phenomenal - cutting off what could have been plenty of half and full rounders.

Wasan, Claire, Han, Sam and Beth K all fielded in lovely balls to stop the Bees' score.

Unconventional catch

Special mention also to Liz, who took a catch in a very unconventional place 👀😂 and big shout out to Laura for being our super sub and keeping all our bats dry! ☔️

With the bat, Beth S top scored with two, and Claire marked the occasion with her first half rounder! 🌟

The whole team battled hard with the bat in difficult conditions to grind out the win.

🏅 Players' POM - Beth S, for her excellent work on first base and top scoring on the day.

A tough, WET win - but a win's a win… to keep Reds at the top of the table! ❤️🖤
