Rounders news: Eldwick overpowered by red-hot Horsforth Hawks Reds

The Sports News Blitz-sponsored Horsforth Hawks Reds rounders team secured a statement win against one of the toughest sides in the league on Wednesday evening.

While England were toiling against Lionel Messi and his Argentina team-mates, the Hawks Reds put on a performance full of power, skill and tactical nous, beating Eldwick All Rounders 22–9.

🔥 MATCH REPORT 🔴🦅

Horsforth Hawks Reds beat Eldwick All Rounders 22–9 in one of our biggest wins of the season 💪.

This one meant something - Eldwick had only lost once coming into the match, so we knew it would be a real test…and the Hawks rose to it!

In the field, fast reactions in the triangle led to key outs on first base throughout, and Steph R’s throws in were devastating - picking off Eldwick’s biggest batters on fourth base in the first innings before they could do any damage.

Steph S also impressed with some sharp throws into 2nd, cutting off directional bats from Eldwick before they could turn into something more.

With the bat, the Hawks were creative and tactical.

Beth K read the field brilliantly, catching the entire fielding side out of position and putting away a beautiful corner backhander into the space they’d left.

Sam also got in on the act with a rounder from a backhander of her own.

Steph R top scored with 4, Beth K close behind with 3.5, and both Sam and Steph S storming up the ranks with 3 each — a massive contribution from the whole batting line-up.

A statement win against one of the toughest sides in the league ❤️🖤

Umpire’s POM - Beth K, for her glorious directional batting.

Players’ POM - Steph S for her consistent fielding which stopped the Eldwick score, and scoring 3 rounders
