Premier League news: Man City ‘have robbed the feelings’ from players, says Jamie Carragher
Jamie Carragher believes Manchester City should have the trophies they won during the period under investigation removed from the club’s record after the Premier League’s recent financial verdict.
The former Liverpool defender said the fallout from the case currently hogging the headlines goes far beyond medals, arguing that the findings could change how Man City players remember some of the biggest achievements of their careers.
“I do think Manchester City’s titles they’ve won in this time or trophies should be taken off their list,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
“Whether other clubs should get them is slightly different.”
Carragher says City have robbed players of their feelings
Carragher argued that the consequences of the verdict should not simply be measured by what happens to Man City’s trophy cabinet.
For the players who helped deliver those successes, he believes the controversy could affect the way they look back on their careers.
“It’s not about medals, it’s about feelings – and that’s what Manchester City have robbed,” he added.
His comments came after an independent commission found Man City guilty of all charges relating to serious breaches of Premier League financial rules during a nine-season period.
Three of four alleged breaches relating to the club’s failure to cooperate with the investigation were also upheld.

Redknapp warns that City’s achievements could be undermined forever
Carragher’s fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp focused on the players who won trophies for Man City during the period covered by the investigation.
The former England and Liverpool midfielder suggested those players could feel let down by the findings, having believed they were competing in a legitimate environment.
“They will think, ‘I’ve deserved them and done all I could on the pitch,’ because they would have been told everything is straightforward here,” Redknapp said.
“They will feel let down, but time is a great healer – but history will not be kind on them.”
Smith predicts City players are facing an uncertain future
Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith believes the verdict could leave members of Man City’s current squad wondering what the future holds.
Smith suggested players could be concerned about whether the club might have to sell members of the squad as a consequence of the case.
“I think everyone was surprised by how comprehensive it was and such language it was used, but they [Premier League] are sure of their findings,” Smith said.
“Firstly, the phrase ‘conspiracy theory’ is just ridiculous – but as a player, you are caught in the middle.
“There is a feeling of uncertainty. You’re thinking, ‘how long now will I be at Man City, will they have to sell me, where will I end up?’
“They will be talking to their agents and that cannot help as a player when you walk out on to the pitch.
“But at the moment, they do not know where they stand.”
