Premier League news: Liverpool boss Arne Slot calls Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal ‘a complete package’

Liverpool are the next side to face the daunting Emirates Stadium assessment this season.

Unbeaten at home, Arsenal host the Reds on Thursday evening – the showpiece event in a midweek instalment of Premier League fixtures.

Here, Sports News Blitz writer Tom Gardiner examines what Arne Slot had to say in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday.

Slot praises ‘very good’ Arsenal side

Slot spoke about the impact a victory for Liverpool could have on their season, saying: “If you win those games, that tells you that you can compete in the latter stages of the FA Cup and the Champions League.

“I think we’ve shown already that we can do this because we’ve already beaten Arsenal at home.”

When asked about the magnitude of Thursday’s fixture, the Dutchman added: “It is important for us to see where we are in a one-off game and to see where we are against a very, very good Arsenal.

“They’ve been very good for years, and this season, probably even better than the years before.”

Keen to laud praise on Mikel Arteta’s side, Slot also described what he thinks makes Arsenal so formidable: “Their main strength is that they have so many strengths! They hardly have a weakness, they hardly concede goals.

“They can score from open play, they can score from set pieces, they have very good ideas about build-up and can play a long ball.

“So, they’re a complete package. And for that reason, in my opinion, they deserve to be on top of this season.”

Gunners eye title while Liverpool rebuild

Arsenal’s strong form has seen them build a six-point gap at the top of the Premier League table, so they will be hoping for a victory to bolster their title credentials.

Liverpool fell short at Craven Cottage last time out, with Harrison Reed’s last-minute stunner stealing a point for home side Fulham.

The result leaves Slot’s side in fourth spot, 14 points shy of the league leaders.

A statement result could enhance belief around Anfield, where support is waning despite a run of nine games unbeaten.

At 8pm on Thursday, football fans across the world will tune in for what promises to be an enthralling battle between the reigning champions and the prospective league winners.
