Premier League betting tips: Newcastle to get the job done against Chelsea, Mohamed Salah to score against trophyless Arsenal and more
After thrilling second-leg semi-final mid-week action, Sports News Blitz’s Bookie Basher previews this weekend's Premier League games.
Just the one winner last weekend for the column. At this rate, they could end up revoking my OBE submission.
The great thing about this game is that there's always tomorrow, and we’ve got all the best betting angles covered when it comes to Premier League games on TV this weekend.
The race to qualify for the UEFA Champions League could be going down to the final weekend of the season after Chelsea beat Liverpool and Newcastle dropped points again.
Let’s not forget, the Toon face the Blues in a seismic high noon clash on Sunday.
Bournemouth vs Aston Villa
Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games against Bournemouth and will be desperate for three points in their bid to finish in the top five.
It's been another strong campaign for Unai Emery's team, who have taken on and beaten some of the best teams in Europe and will be hoping to qualify for the Champions League again.
Full disclosure. I’m a big Matty Cash fan. Heart of a lion and looks like the type of player whose early life consisted of boiled cabbage and adversity.
Both teams to score has landed in each of the last three meetings between these teams, so I’m having a large slice of Villa to win, and both teams to score in what should be an entertaining game at the Vitality Stadium.
Suggested Bet: Aston Villa to win & both teams to score at 7/2 (bet365/Betfair/Hills/Paddy Power)
Newcastle United vs Chelsea
No doubt about it, the game of the weekend takes place on Tyneside on Sunday.
The Mags are 21/20 to finish in the top four, while the Blues are 11/10 in the same market.
Both teams are locked on 63 points, and you would fancy whoever comes out on top on Sunday to be playing Champions League football next season.
Newcastle battled gamely for a point against Brighton, and on another day might have taken all three.
Geordie fans were having a meltdown on social media after they had two penalty decisions overturned by VAR in that one, and this fixture just reeks of drama.
The crowd could be their 12th man this weekend, but it won’t be easy against a Chelsea side who are unbeaten in six league games since losing 1-0 to Arsenal in March.
Home advantage could be crucial here. Chelsea have won only one of their last nine away games in the league and have emerged victorious in just four Premier League games outside of London all season.
Newcastle at odds against to win in 90 minutes? I won’t lie, that’s right up my f***ing strasse.
Suggested Bet: Newcastle to win at 11/10 (General)

Nottingham Forest vs Leicester City
It’s all going Pete Tong for Nottingham Forest, who seem to be falling away at the worst possible time.
They have taken just one point from the last six available and that’s a bad old return when you factor in they have only played Brentford and Crystal Palace.
The good news is it is Leicester next. The Foxes have shown that a lack of basic defensive competence is going to bite you in the a*se in this division.
Leicester are winless in their last six on the road (D1 L5), conceding 14 and scoring just twice in that time.
Despite the stats, one simply can’t be lumping Forest at 4/11 here, so I am going to take a leap of faith and have a bash on Manchester City transfer target Morgan Gibbs-White to score first at a tempting 7/1.
Suggested Bet: Gibbs-White to score first at 7/1 (Betfair/Paddy Power)
Liverpool vs Arsenal
Arsenal are now five years without a trophy. Five long years since Mikel Arteta led them to the FA Cup in 2020.
For all the talk of trusting the process, it remains a fact that Arne Slot has done in one season what Arteta couldn’t manage in five seasons at Arsenal.
Weird game to price up and preview this given the circumstances. That said, are the camel coats taking diabolical liberties by chalking Liverpool up at 11/10 here?
I alluded in last week's piece that Arne Slot's side could have been out on the p*ss all week celebrating their title win, and in truth, they looked miles off it against Chelsea.
It was no surprise to me that there was a lack of intensity at times in West London and a shortage of that killer instinct in the final third that has been their hallmark this season.
This is another game that technically doesn’t matter, though Liverpool fans will say their team will want to make a statement against the team that have been highlighted as their main title challengers.
I’m actually going to swerve the 1X2 market altogether and keep things a bit more simple.
Mohamed Salah has 28 goals and 18 assists to his name in 35 appearances in the Premier League this season.
He will be wanting to get to 30 goals and 7/5 that he finds the net here looks kinky.
Suggested Bet: Mo Salah to sore anytime at 7/5 (Betfair/Paddy Power)
