Premier League betting tips: Joao Pedro to continue his form, Erling Haaland to impress, Newcastle to win, and more
Before we kick off this week, can we all agree that paper f***ing straws are easily a bottom-five all-time invention?
My mate - who thinks the Apollo Moon landings were fake and that the CIA killed John Lennon - reckons paper straws are full of PFAS chemicals anyway. I understand the need and the effort, but this sh*t is not the solution.
Now that’s off my chest, read on for a breakdown of the best bets from the Premier League’s TV games from Sports News Blitz’s generational wordsmith, the Bookie Basher, including Arsenal’s huge trip to Liverpool.
Chelsea vs Fulham
The Cottagers won this fixture 2-1 last season, ending a 21-game winless streak away to Chelsea in all competitions.
They’ve never won consecutive visits to Stamford Bridge in their history and are 5/1 shots to win Saturday’s early kick-off.
Chelsea were fantastic against an admittedly shambolic West Ham last time out, and even without Cole Palmer (groin), are fancied to win this.
Joao Pedro was awesome against the Hammers, and even at £60 million, the 23-year-old looks a shrewd bit of business. 5/1 to score first? Take my money.
Suggested Bet: Joao Pedro to score first at 5/1 (bet365)
Leeds United vs Newcastle United
Shipping that 100th-minute winner will have felt like a right kick in the danglers for Newcastle, who battled bravely to get back on terms against Liverpool on Monday night with 10 men.
Leeds were hammered 5-0 by Arsenal, and without a striker who is going to get them 20 goals a season might struggle this season.
The Mags have won their last eight Premier League games against promoted sides, and I fancy them to shade this in what could be a low-scoring affair.
Suggested Bet: Newcastle to win & Under 3.5 goals at 2/1 (betway / Coral / Ladbrokes / skybet)

Brighton vs Manchester City
Pep Guardiola can’t have been happy with what he saw against Spurs last Saturday.
He’s into his tenth season at Man City but it looks like it is going to be an uphill task to deliver another title on what we have seen so far.
While Pep and his quirky touchline mannerisms/cargo pants remain, so much has changed at the Etihad, from the playing cast to the director of football.
Guardiola has shown his tactical acuity and attention to detail are without equal in a Hall of Fame career, but there is an unfamiliar look to this City side, who will know they need three points on the south coast or risk being cast adrift already in the title race.
Against Brighton, I’m happy to put my faith in the goalscoring phenomenon that is Erling Haaland, who could be a real threat in the air against a Brighton defence who have already shipped three goals in two games.
Haaland is some player, and anyone with a head like a ten-bob cabbage is going to be a threat from set pieces. He’s 100/30 to score first, but I am going to have a more speculative nibble on him scoring a hat-trick at 22/1 (the same bet is 12s with some firms).
Sergio Aguero has achieved the most career hat-tricks in Premier League history with 12. However, he played 275 matches in England’s top flight.
Haaland already has eight Premier League trebles to his name in just 99 matches. “Heavy stats, la” as Oscar Wilde might say.
Suggested Bet: Haaland to score a hat-trick at 22/1 (Coral / Ladbrokes)
Liverpool vs Arsenal
The Gunners - who have backed Senor Arteta to the tune of a reported £250million in new signings this summer - have made a dream start.
Two games. Two wins. Six goals scored. None conceded. Top of the league.
Championships aren’t won in August, however, and they face a legit test of their title credentials when they visit Anfield on Sunday.
These two have enjoyed a rancorous rivalry down the years, and I whenever I see that Arsenal are playing Liverpool away, I can’t help but be transported back to the inimitable Brian Moore shouting on ITV, “Thomas, it's up for grabs now! Thomas...Right at the end!” I digress.
Liverpool have started well, also, but Arne Slot must be concerned at the lack of cohesion defensively so far.
This could be cagey, but I think I have found a worldie punt in Declan Rice to have 2+ shots.
Rice - who will likely be on set-piece duty - continues to be underrated by the bookies when it comes to shots.
In 10 of his last 13 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, yer man Rice has attempted 2+ shots.
You can get 13/8 that the England man has two or more shots on Sunday, and that looks a tempter.
Suggested Bet: Rice 2+ shots at 13/8 (bet365)

Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace
Bizarre kick-off time alert. Villa vs Palace live on Sunday night at 7pm? ‘Ow mad’s tha?
The scheduling has everything to do with the Eagles' participation in the Conference League play-off round, and it’s not an easy game to call this.
Oliver Glasner will be gutted he can no longer call on Ebere Eze's creativity, while Aston Villa’s start to the season has been poor.
Villa opened their campaign with a goalless draw against Newcastle before limping to defeat at Brentford on Saturday.
Crystal Palace have played two, drawn two. I don’t hate odds approaching 4/1 that this ends all square as well in a game where both teams find the net.
Suggester Bet: Draw & both teams to score 19/5 (Bet Victor)
