PGA Championship betting tips: Rory McIlroy in line to pick up fifth Quail Hollow win and second major of the year
The second major of 2025 is on the horizon, and a stacked field is ready to compete to claim one of the biggest prizes in golf.
The PGA Championship heads to Quail Hollow this week. An incredibly long, 7,626-yard, par 71. The Hollow may look like a playground for the big hitters at first glance.
However, despite its stretching layout, the North Carolina course is devastatingly punishing. While distance off the tee will still be vital to success, accuracy is also a must.
Quail Hollow rewards patience and resilience, meaning players with experience and know-how tend to flourish around its merciless layout.
Here, Sports News Blitz’s Sam Condy breaks down four of the top picks ahead of 2025’s second major.
Rory McIlroy
McIlroy is an expert around the greens at Quail Hollow. The Northern Irishman currently holds a course record of 61 from the 2015 Wells Fargo Championship, and has tasted victory here on four separate occasions.
He is finally over his majors hump thanks to his historic triumph at the Masters in April. Perhaps a newfound confidence in his game will be enough to spur him on to new heights.
Obviously, all eyes will be on the 36-year-old, and the pressure to perform is immense.
However, there is no course more suited to the Masters winner, and he will rightfully be a firm favourite to pick up the second major of the season.

Tommy Fleetwood
Tommy Fleetwood is playing some brilliant golf right now, and 2025 could be the year he finally gets his maiden major win.
Fleetwood has been consistently solid at Quail Hollow with finishes of 13th, fifth, and 14th in his last three starts, and has shown composure when navigating its tricky layout.
The Englishman may be known for his iron play, but he seems to be firing on all cylinders with the flatstick as of late, ranking fourth on the greens last Sunday.
If he can carry his putting form over to Quail Hollow, a Fleetwood win is a promising prospect.

Collin Morikawa
Collin Morikawa heads to the PGA Championship as a former winner, having lifted the trophy in 2020 at Harding Park.
One of the most consistent players on tour, Morikawa may be suffering from a long win drought, but he is consistently finding himself in the mixer come Sundays.
From nine starts this season, he’s already posted two runner-up finishes in Signature Events and grabbed a top-10 at The Players Championship.
He was T17 at last week’s Truist Championship, where he led the field in Driving Accuracy and ranked 9th for Strokes Gained Putting.
Combine this with his ever-consistent approach play and the American is a dangerous player heading into May’s major.

Bryson Dechambeau
Bryson DeChambeau is built for the tough, long setup at Quail Hollow this week.
While he’s always been known for his missile-like drives, improved accuracy has helped to polish off his game.
People are often sceptical of LIV players, and rightly so, given their often shaky form at major championships.
However, Dechambeau already has two major titles under his belt, clearly proving he has the ability to turn up when the pressure mounts.
