PFA Women’s Player of the Year: Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd stars dominate the shortlist
The Professional Footballers’ Association has revealed the top six nominees for the 2024/25 Women’s Players’ Player of the Year award.
With the winner set to be announced on August 19 in Manchester, the field features a mix of attacking excellence, midfield mastery and goalkeeping dominance.
Arsenal - Alessia Russo & Mariona Caldentey
Arsenal have two players nominated, and with good reason.
Alessia Russo finished as the joint-top scorer in the Women’s Super League with 12 goals and was equally lethal in Europe, bagging eight on Arsenal’s road to Champions League triumph.
She’s joined on the shortlist by Mariona Caldentey, who has enjoyed a superb first season in England.
The Spanish forward not only delivered nine goals and five assists in the WSL but also found the net seven times in Europe, cementing her place as one of the most impactful signings of the campaign.
Chelsea - Erin Cuthbert
Chelsea’s Erin Cuthbert also makes the cut following a sensational season in midfield.
She was central to Chelsea’s unbeaten WSL title run and treble-winning campaign, even netting a dramatic 91st-minute winner at the Etihad Stadium in a defining match.
Cuthbert’s influence throughout the season earned her Chelsea’s Players’ Player of the Year award and now national recognition.

Manchester City - Mary Fowler & Yui Hasegawa
Despite Manchester City’s struggles, Mary Fowler’s performances couldn’t be overlooked.
The Australian star contributed six goals and seven assists, becoming the only City player to reach double digits in goal contributions before an ACL injury brought her season to a premature end.
Her teammate Yui Hasegawa also earned a nod after delivering an all-action season in midfield. She led the league in dribbles and possession wins, yet astonishingly didn’t commit a single foul.
Her calm, intelligent style of play earned her City’s Player of the Year award and now a place among the league’s elite.
Manchester United - Phallon Tullis-Joyce
Rounding out the shortlist is Manchester United’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce, whose presence between the posts proved vital.
In her first full season as the club’s number one following Mary Earps’ departure, the American kept 13 clean sheets in 22 WSL matches and conceded just 16 goals - earning her a share of the Golden Glove with Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton, who had 13 clean sheets and conceded 13.
