Lewis Hamilton takes responsibility for frustrated radio and media comments at Dutch GP
Lewis Hamilton has admitted he did not show the best version of himself during the Dutch Grand Prix after a series of frustrated radio messages and post-race television comments directed at Ferrari.
The seven-time world champion finished fourth at Zandvoort, just behind George Russell, and felt time lost behind team-mate Charles Leclerc ultimately cost him a shot at the podium.
Hamilton had been on a different strategy and believed he was quicker on fresher tyres.
When he caught Leclerc, he told the team: "I’m quicker than Charles. These tyres are better."
As the pair continued to lose time, his messages grew sharper.
"We are just losing time!” he said, before adding sarcastically once Leclerc finally pitted: "A great way of wasting time guys, good job."
Hamilton reflects on Instagram
After the race Hamilton doubled down on his criticism, pointing to the contrast with Mercedes, who had quickly ordered Russell to let championship leader Kimi Antonelli through later in the same race.
On Monday, August 24, however, he posted a more measured response on Instagram after reviewing his comments.
"I’ve listened back to some of my radio and TV comments. In the heat of the moment frustration can come out, especially when you care as deeply as I do," Hamilton wrote.
"But that wasn’t the best version of me. I take responsibility for that, and I’ll be better.”
He continued: "That passion comes from believing in this team, the people in it, and what we’re building together. The direction is clear. The belief is there. And the fight is absolutely still on."

Looking ahead
The apology comes after a difficult afternoon for Ferrari, who showed competitive pace but left Zandvoort without a podium.
Hamilton, now in his second season with the Scuderia after joining from Mercedes, made clear that the underlying desire to win remains unchanged.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1 post-race, the seven-time champion said, "I’m here to win and I really believe this team can win."
The next test for Hamilton and his Prancing Horse comes at the team’s home race at Monza on the weekend of September 4-6.
