Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and more left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad

Thomas Tuchel has named his England squad for October, with several high-profile players missing out.

Jack Grealish, Jude Bellingham, Adam Wharton and Phil Foden are among those left out as the manager sticks with much of the group that featured in September.

Key omissions

Grealish, on loan at Everton, has been in good form, with four assists in six games. He is yet to be included in a squad under England, and it comes as a surprise that his recent surprises haven't resulted in his first call-up since October 2024.

Bellingham is still working his way back after a shoulder injury, with Tuchel explaining that the midfielder “just lacks rhythm” and has not completed a full match since his return.

Left out of the June internationals due to physical and mental health issues, Foden has been sidelined in Tuchel’s latest squad, despite performing well for Man City, with two goals and two assists so far this season.

Wharton, meanwhile, has impressed at Crystal Palace - the only unbeaten team in the Premier League so far -  but is another to miss out as competition for midfield places remains high.

Notable returns

Tuchel has restored Bukayo Saka and John Stones to the squad after injury kept them out of September’s fixtures.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek retains his place, while Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold are still unavailable due to injury.

England will face Wales in a friendly before meeting Latvia in a World Cup qualifier.

Tuchel said he is aware of the players left out who could have been included, but stressed the importance of maintaining continuity with those who featured in the previous camp, stressing that "there is no personal problem."
