Horse racing news: Which ‘Glorious’ Goodwood races are ITV showing this week?
The Goodwood Festival, or Glorious Goodwood to those in the know, is one of the highlights of the UK’s Flat-racing calendar.
Held on the picturesque Sussex Downs, Goodwood attracts the world’s best horses, jockeys, and trainers across five action-packed days of high-quality Flat racing.
Like all summer racing festivals, fashion plays a big part, but rather than the top hat and tails of Royal Ascot and Epsom, Goodwood has a more relaxed approach, with the Panama hat and linen suits taking centre stage.
The Goodwood Festival begins on Tuesday, July 28 and ends on Saturday, August 1. Racing starts at 13:50 BST each day, with seven to nine races in the schedule, depending on the day.
Each day features a showpiece race, usually at 15:35 BST. There are three Group 1 races: the Goodwood Cup Stakes (Tuesday), the Sussex Stakes (Wednesday) – which goes off at 16:10 BST just to be awkward – and the Nassau Stakes (Thursday).
There are also themes each day, such as Goodwood Cup Day (Tuesday), Sussex Stakes Day (Wednesday), Ladies’ Day (Thursday), King George Day (Friday), and Stewards’ Cup Day (Saturday).
The ITV Racing team are at Goodwood in force during the week and on air between 13:30 and 16:30. But obviously, as nothing moves for their late afternoon quiz shows Tipping Point and The Chase, ITV are only showing five races a day rather than the full card.
