Horse racing news: Aussie sprinter Asfoora 4lb clear of King George rivals in Timeform ratings

There is no standout sprinter in Britain and Ireland at present and the Australian-trained Asfoora sets the standard in this year’s renewal of the King George Qatar Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Indeed, her Timeform weight-adjusted rating of 133 is at least 4lb clear of her rivals, and she was only beaten a short head by Big Evs in this race 12 months ago.

Back to her best

Asfoora arrived last year on the back of a career-best success in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot.

And while she could only finish fifth when attempting to defend her crown last month, she had a different preparation this time round.

She finished fourth in the Temple Stakes at Haydock prior to winning at Royal Ascot last season, but connections were unable to get across for a run this year, and she shaped accordingly on her first start for eight weeks in first-time blinkers, having every chance over a furlong out but unable to sustain her run in the closing stages.

The Timeform report for the King Charles III Stakes states: “Asfoora is sure to be sharper in the King George Stakes at Goodwood, a race in which she finished a close second last season.”

As a result, Asfoora arrives with leading form claims and, with no concerns regards the track or ground, she is expected to be back to near her best now.
