Gulfstream Park horse racing tips: Disco Time in the Pegasus World Cup on Saturday, January 24
After scoring a healthy profit last week, Sports News Blitz’s horse racing expert Kieran McHugh is planning on raiding the ‘land of opportunity’.
The Pegasus World Cup headlines a great card at Gulfstream Park with seven graded races on offer, and our pundit is hoping his selections will grow wings and fly to victory.
Kieran McHugh’s racing tips
A double dose of selections this week. Fresh off the back of an excursion to Dubai, I now find myself in America.
Hopefully, the chocolate in these parts will not be as expensive as Dubai, but I am yet to find out.
If anyone knows of any good supermarkets here, please let me know. In Britain, I normally frequent Iceland, but it seems the powers that be are more interested in their neighbours.
With any luck, we will be able to pay the shopping bill with some success at this meeting or at the very least splash out on a loaf of bread.

18:02 (Gulfstream) – Christophe Clement Stakes (Grade 3)
Named after the late, great trainer himself.
The vote goes to Brad Cox’s Fionn. She won at Aqueduct last time out over 11 furlongs and that was a good time.
She is a Grade One winner and she defeated Nitrogen at Saratoga to earn that title. This should go to her.
Suggested bet: FIONN (WIN)
19:04 (Gulfstream) – Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint Stakes
My Boy Prince will be much better now he’s back over sprint distances, but he will have to strike first to see off the closers in this field.
He has some good form behind Ag Bullet and if he runs up to that level, it will make him hard to beat.
Suggested bet: MY BOY PRINCE (WIN)

19:41 (Gulfstream) – Fred W. Hooper Stakes (Grade 3)
A classy one-turn mile race with plenty of intrigue.
Tour Player arrives here in fine fettle alongside Knightsbridge, who is a nice sort and should go well.
Life And Times is Todd Pletcher’s charge and will be difficult to peg back if he gets a head start.
The Justify gelding should make it three-from-three.
Suggested bet: LIFE AND TIMES (WIN)
20:13 (Gulfstream) – William L. Mcknight Stakes (Grade 3)
Hammerhead is a horse that we may not have seen the best of. Sadly for him, he is drawn in the car park.
Ex-European inmate Missed The Cut perhaps needed his comeback run here in December, returning from a seven-month lay-off.
That was his first start for Bobby Dibona and he can improve for that. On his best day, he has the class to win this.
Suggested bet: MISSED THE CUT (WIN)

20:45 (Gulfstream) – Pegasus World Cup Filly And Mare Turf (Grade 2)
A tricky race. Oisin Murphy’s mount Breath Away is a danger but needs to bounce back.
In Our Time probably has the best precedent in this and is enjoying a nice time of it lately. She ticks the most boxes.
Suggested bet: IN OUR TIME (WIN)
21:18 (Gulfstream) – Inside Information Stakes (Grade 2)
Again, another difficult race. Despite a poor performance last time out, it could be worth sticking with Grand Job.
Bill Mott’s mare may have found the six furlongs too fast, so she will appreciate the step back up in trip.
She has run well around here before and has some nice form behind Dorth Vader. If she bounces back, she is a danger.
Suggested bet: GRAND JOB (WIN)

21:54 (Gulfstream) – Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes (Grade 1)
Cugino ran well in defeat at Gulfstream in December, but it is hard to see past the Chad Brown–trained Program Trading.
He was not seen to best effect in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, but this is easier and his best performances have come over nine furlongs.
You would be disappointed if he could not get back to winning ways in this.
Suggested bet: PROGRAM TRADING (WIN)
22:39 (Gulfstream) – Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (Grade 1)
Disco Time looks a classy prospect and Tappan Street remains the only horse to best Sovereignty.
However, White Abarrio’s record at Gulfstream is impeccable – winning eight of 10 races and finishing runner-up in another.
He is the defending champion and Irad Ortiz Jr partners him again, so he stands a good chance at being the first horse to retain this race.
Elsewhere, Mika could be an interesting contender. He has found a new lease of life as a front-runner and it is not uncommon for those to slip away and run off with the victory.
If he has an uncontested lead and the pace does not collapse, he could shock the world.
Suggested bets: WHITE ABARRIO (WIN), MIKA (E/W)
As ever, best of betting luck to you all.
(Selections are correct at time of publishing. Be aware they are subject to change, horses could be removed from races and meetings may be abandoned due to bad weather.)
