Golf betting tips: Scottish Open – Ryan Fox’s links prowess key as Robert MacIntyre eyes home crowd
Golf heads home this week as the PGA Tour moves to Scotland for the Genesis Scottish Open.
It is set to be a stacked field at the Renaissance Club, with the world's best using the weekend to warm up to links golf ahead of the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
The course this week rewards efficiency in tee-to-green metrics. Long drives and accurate approach play will pair together nicely on a course with mammoth greens that make putting a tough ask if the wedges aren’t firing.
Here, Sports News Blitz writer Sam Condy outlines four of his favourite picks ahead of the action.
Ryan Fox
Ryan Fox is putting together an excellent season on the PGA Tour, notching two recent wins and establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers in 2025.
He currently ranks inside the top 20 for Strokes Gained: Total, showing reliable form across all areas of the game.
In his last five starts, the New Zealander has posted two victories – a pair of top-20s – with his worst finish coming in at an impressive T28.
He also has proven form in links conditions, having won the Alfred Dunhill Links in 2022 and finished 12th at this event in 2023.
Given his sharp recent form and comfort on links layouts, Fox looks tough to ignore at these odds. He’s peaking at the right time and is more than capable of contending again this week.

Ludvig Åberg
Ludvig Åberg returns to this event with unfinished business.
The Swede held a two-shot lead heading into the final round last year after a blistering stretch of 64-64-65, only to unravel with a closing 73 that dropped him into a tie for fourth alongside Rory McIlroy.
Forgetting that Sunday stumble, it’s easy to see why this tournament fits him. The set-up rewards powerful driving and aggressive scoring – both cornerstones of Åberg’s game.
Despite an up-and-down season, he certainly possesses the quality to challenge at the top of the leaderboard this week.
He’s also worth considering in the Top Continental European market, especially with Viktor Hovland nursing a neck issue that forced him to withdraw from the Travelers.

Collin Morikawa
With Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy both in the field, there’s a chance this turns into another two-horse race.
That said, there could still be an opportunity for someone else to break through, and Collin Morikawa fits the bill.
While he hasn't found the winners circle in a long time, consistent top 10s show he’s not far off. His eighth place at the Rocket Classic was another solid effort, and the short-term switch to Billy Foster on the bag might give him the boost he needs.
After a slow start to life at Renaissance, Morikawa figured it out last year with four rounds in the 60s and a strong fourth-place finish.
His ball-striking remains sharp, and if he finds anything at all with the putter, he’s more than capable of outshining last year's effort.

Robert MacIntyre
Robert MacIntyre heads back to the Renaissance Club as the defending champion, and few players in this field can match his recent form combined with course comfort.
The Scotsman has four top-18 finishes here in six appearances, including a win last year and a runners-up finish in 2023, when he was only denied by a vintage Sunday performance from McIlroy.
Statistically, his numbers aren’t elite, but they are consistent, and in 2025, he’s found a way to contend without needing to top every strokes-gained chart.
His runners-up finish at the US Open marks his best major finish to date, and his four-day battle with one of the world’s toughest courses showed remarkable grit and determination.
Heading back to a course he is comfortable on and with local support and strong memories in his corner, MacIntyre looks primed for another big week.
