Golf betting tips: 3M Open – Sam Burns chases Ryder Cup spot, Rickie Fowler shows signs of old self

The PGA Tour heads to Minnesota for the 3M Open this week as players look to capitalise on a weak field.

Scottie Scheffler pulled himself even closer to the coveted career grand slam with his runaway victory at The Open last week.

Only the US Open eludes him now, and it is starting to look inevitable that he will soon join the greats at the top of the golfing pyramid.

For now, though, Tour players can breathe a sigh of relief, as Scheffler – and the majority of other big-name players – are absent from this week’s visit to Minnesota, giving ample opportunity for someone else to join 2025’s winners circle.

Hosted at TPC Twin Cities, the 3M Open will play into the hands of the big hitters, with long, forgiving fairways and plenty of scoring opportunities for those who can send it long off the tee.

Here, Sports News Blitz writer Sam Condy picks out four of his favourite bets ahead of the action.

Taylor Pendrith

Pendrith may have missed the cut last week at Royal Portrush, but overall he has had a phenomenal 2025.

He finished 13th at the Scottish Open and fifth at the PGA Championship – both held at courses that favour the big hitters.

Pendrith ranks 24th on tour for Total Driving, and with TPC Twin Cities playing long and forgiving, it’s primed to allow Pendrith to let loose.

Rickie Fowler

The fan favourite has struggled over the last few years, but Rickie Fowler has been showing glimpses of his old self.

He shot a final-round 65 last week to clinch 14th at The Open and finished T18 at the John Deere at the start of the month.

It’s a fairly thin roster this week, so if Fowler can capitalise on his recent form, he should find himself hanging with the leaders come Sunday.

Kevin Yu

Kevin Yu missed the cut at his first-ever Open last week, but the Taiwanese prodigy has had a 2025 to be proud of, carding two top-five finishes across the last two months.

Yu hits it long and straight, a perfect recipe for success in Minnesota this week.

Over the last 24 rounds, he ranks 17th for SG: Ball Striking, sixth for SG: Off the Tee, and 10th for Birdies or Better Gained, showcasing that he has all the tools to excel this week and put on yet another impressive performance.

Best odds: 50/1 (6EW, 1/5) with Paddy Power

Sam Burns

Sam Burns feels so close to a sixth PGA Tour victory, having not won since the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge.

He tends to perform at his best on longer courses, such as TPC Twin Cities, which provide more opportunities for low-scoring rounds.

Burns lost the RBC Canadian Open in a play-off and finished seventh at the US Open.

He is sitting 12th in Ryder Cup qualification, and with time running out, he is in desperate need of a win – Twin Cities seems tailor-made for Burns to come in clutch.

Best odds: 18/1 (Win Only) with Paddy Power
