Gaming news: Arc Raiders - New game or new business?
Sports News Blitz’s Gaming expert Ryan Preston gives his views on Embark Studios - the developers of Arc Raiders - and what they have done right so far.
Racking up the hours
Released two weeks before writing this article, and I’ve already racked up 60 hours.
Without a full-time job getting in the way, I can guarantee it would be over 200 by now (sad, I know).
So what has Arc done to get both myself and millions of others so addicted?
Firstly, it is polished. While the occasional bug or exploit exists, they are few and far between, unlike many other developers who are guilty, especially within the AAA industry.
Best experience
Embark Studios are not just resting on their initial success, no. They are determined to ensure the best experience for the players as possible.
Quick patches and updates ensure that reported issues are dealt with promptly.
It doesn’t stop there either. Listening to the community, they realised that the in-game cosmetics shop was priced a little too high.
Their solution? Lower the prices and refund the difference back to those who have already purchased something in the form of the game's premium currency.

Affordable
This means it's just that much more affordable to buy Scrappy the chicken, the shiny old-fashioned diver's helmet.
Yes, you can get a matching one for your raider, too.
It is rare these days for a developer to not just listen to the gaming community but to act on it so quickly. Even more so when it is detrimental to profit margins.
It has become normal for pay-to-win features to exist to some level, but so far, Embark Studios are doing everything right.
I can see myself and many others continuing to pour countless hours into the game, and with each match being completely unique, each time is as exciting and tense as the last.
So with fingers crossed and hopes high, I’m expecting that the best is still to come.
