F1 2027 calendar: Shock Monaco Sprint race, Portugal’s return, 10 Sprints, and more
Formula 1 and the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) have officially confirmed the 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar.
The calendar features 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries, with 10 Sprint weekends, writes Sports News Blitz sub-editor Nicole Powell.
Pre-season testing and a sprint-full start
Following the winter break, pre-season testing will be held in Bahrain from February 24-27.
The 2027 F1 season will then kick off in Bahrain on the weekend of March 12-14.
The Sakhir circuit will host the first of 10 Sprints, marking the first time an F1 season will begin with a Sprint.
It will be a double-header, with Saudi Arabia hosting the second round the following weekend.
After a week’s break, the season’s first triple-header will commence in Australia, Japan - both Sprint weekends - and China.
The first North American races of the season follow, with the Miami Grand Prix on the weekend of April 30-May 2 and Canada hosting a Sprint weekend from May 21-23.
Surprising Monaco Sprint decision kicks off European leg
To the shock of many online, the European leg of the 2027 F1 season will begin with Monaco’s Sprint weekend from June 4-6.
With fans already debating Monaco’s future in the sport, the decision to introduce a Sprint weekend at the iconic circuit has sparked plenty of discussion online.
However, the weekend will be followed by the return of the Portimão track in Portugal two weeks later, which has had more positive reactions.
At the start of July, Silverstone will host the sixth Sprint weekend of the season, with the double-header completed by the Austrian GP.
Another double-header will follow in Belgium from July 23-25, with the Hungarian Grand Prix concluding the first half of the season on August 1.
Something new amongst history and pedigree
After an unusually long summer break (five weeks), Monza will host a Sprint weekend from September 3-5.
It will be a double-header with the Spanish GP at the Madring taking place the following weekend.
The inaugural GP in Madrid produced a race with little to no overtakes. However, the organisers have promised changes ahead of the 2027 race following criticism from fans, the media and some drivers.
Baku follows two weeks later, kicking off another triple-header that continues with Istanbul’s return to the calendar and the Singapore Grand Prix.

The closing rounds - and Sprints
As the 2027 F1 season nears its end, Austin, Texas, will host the United States GP from October 22-24.
The triple-header will continue into Mexico and Brazil, where São Paulo will host a Sprint race.
On November 20, the lone race in Las Vegas will usher us into the final double-header of the season, with the Qatar and Abu Dhabi GPs both holding Sprint races to end the season on December 12.
