Boxing news: Jeamie TKV pulls out of Frazer Clarke clash, forces BBC to postpone boxing comeback

The BBC’s much-anticipated return to headline boxing has been moved to November 29 after Jeamie ‘TKV’ Tshikeva suffered a training injury ahead of his heavyweight clash with Frazer Clarke.

Despite the postponement, the British title bout will remain at Derby’s Vaillant Arena, with a rescheduled undercard – that is likely to still contain British bantamweight Francesca Hennesy’s match-up with former atomweight world champion Fabiana Bytyqi – yet to be confirmed.

Here, Sports News Blitz writer Will Thomas has all you need to know.

Injury forces withdrawal

Speaking to the BBC, Boxxer founder Ben Shalom revealed that Jeamie TKV – as he is commonly known – had picked up a minor injury in training but promised it would only add to the eventual fight.

“Jeamie suffered an injury in training and the medical advice was he can’t compete,” Shalom said.

“There’s an extra edge to the fight – Frazer feels he’s ready to win right now and is frustrated at having to completely change his training plan.

“Jeamie will be desperate to prove he’s fighting fit and capable of beating Frazer.

“They have been quite respectful of each other up to now, but it feels like that’s changing as emotions are running high on both sides.”

Historic bout awaits

Both Jeamie TKV and Clarke come into this historic bout off the back of damaging losses.

Jeamie TKV found himself on the wrong end of a controversial points decision against David Adeleye in Manchester back in April, while Clarke suffered a brutal first-round knockout at the hands of Fabio Wardley in Riyadh last October.

They will be looking to follow in the footsteps of greats such as Tyson Fury, Lennox Lewis, and Anthony Joshua, who all held the British heavyweight belt at some point in their illustrious careers.

The fight will be shown live on BBC Two as well as on BBC iPlayer and represents the long-awaited return of boxing to UK terrestrial television.

However, in an interesting turn of events, the rescheduled event will now clash with former Boxxer star Ben Whittaker’s Matchroom debut against Benjamin Gavazi in his home town of Birmingham on the same day.

Shalom is yet to speak on Whittaker’s departure to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom.
